Workshop Dates: July 3-4, 2023

Conducted by: Assistant Professor Biswajita Parida

Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

About the Workshop:

The workshop will be held from July 3-4, 2023 via online medium (through Zoom).

Focus of the Workshop:

The aim of this workshop is to offer necessary understanding as well as confidence to start doing experimental research. This workshop will be useful to faculty, doctoral students and aspiring Ph.D. candidates who are interested in experimental research. The purpose of this workshop is to provide technical skills for the design and implementation of experimental methods, the techniques and discussion are relevant for any experimental research in social science/behavioral studies. The assignment is oriented towards getting the candidates to conceptualize and design a simple experiment and then analyze the results from the study.

Learning Objectives:

Upon the completion of this workshop, the participants would learn:

  • 1 Gain familiarity with fundamentals of experimental methods.
  • 2 Get introduced to various experiment designs.
  • 3 Learn the basic concepts of operationalization of variables and manipulation checks.
  • 4 Learn how to avoid biases in experiments.
  • 5 Develop familiarity with sample size determination, statistical power, effect size and experimental data analysis.
Who should attend and prerequisites?

This workshop is designed for researchers working in social sciences (Psychology, OB, HRM, Marketing, Strategy, Communication, etc.) who want to apply experimental methods in their own research. Participants should be familiar with basic principles of statistical inference (e.g., standard errors, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals).

Participants will be expected to have their laptops loaded with Excel.
